Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) has released their 2022 Annual Report. It highlights the progress made last year and has a theme of ‘moving forward’. The report shares stories and statistics about the organization’s activities.

The report focuses on the resumption of NWHU’s services after pausing many during the COVID-19 pandemic. It highlights the enthusiasm and optimism that came with restarting work that was put on hold due to staff redeployment during the organization’s pandemic response.

Some key points from the report include:

  • NWHU received $1.2 million in external funding to support community health programming
  • 2,816 naloxone kits distributed to prevent opioid overdose deaths
  • 406 local children accessed dental services through the Healthy Smiles Ontario program
  • 131 seniors received 728 dental procedures through the Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program
  • Our region experienced a 730% increase in total institutional outbreaks compared to pre-COVID-19 years.
  • NWHU website had 192,349 page views in 2022.

The report also mentions the strategic planning process NWHU underwent in 2022. The finalized plan, which was approved in the fall of 2022, will guide the agency’s work over the next four years. “I am optimistic for the health of our region as we apply what we’ve learned throughout the pandemic in our work moving forward,” says Marilyn Herbacz, Chief Executive Officer at NWHU.
