Pertussis incidence rates were significantly higher in the NWHU area than in Ontario as a whole in 2011 and 2013. The average rate per year between 2009 and 2013 was 3.2 cases per 100,000 in Ontario, and 12.6 cases in the NWHU area.. There was a steep upward trend seen in the NWHU area rate during this period, and further data are needed to determine if this pattern will continue.
Pertussis cases were almost equally male and female, and about one third of the cases occured in infants under the age of 1.
