The average rate in the NWHU area was 9.2 cases per 100,000 people annually and the average rate was 9.3 per 100,000 in Ontario as a whole. Both rates remained relatively stable during this period, with more fluctuations seen in the NWHU area due to very low case counts.

The mortality rate from oral cancer in the NWHU area was significantly higher than in Ontario in 2005, but was on par in subsequent years. The average rate in the NWHU area was 2.8 deaths per 100,000 people compared with 2.6 in the province from 2005 to 2009. The rate remained relatively stable in Ontario; more fluctuations were seen in the NWHU area but this is due to very low case counts.
