Malignant melanoma

Incidence
Incidence rates of malignant melanoma were not significantly different when comparing the NWHU area with Ontario. The average rate in the NWHU area between 2005 and 2009 was 11.5 cases per 100,000 people annually, whereas the provincial average was slightly higher at 15.0 cases per 100,000. There appears to be a somewhat increasing trend in provincial rates and a slight decrease in the NWHU area overall.

The average rate in the NWHU area was 2.1 deaths per 100,000 people, compared with 2.5 deaths per 100,000 in the province. The NWHU area experienced a few fluctuations due to very low case counts during this period.
