Lung Cancer

Incidence
Lung cancer incidence rates in the NWHU area were significantly higher from Ontario rates in 2008, but not in the other years between 2005 and 2009. On average, there were 64.4 new cases of lung cancer per 100,000 each year in the NWHU area and approximately 51.4 cases per 100,000 across the province.

Mortality
In general, mortality rates due to lung cancer were higher in the NWHU area when compared with Ontario; they were statistically significantly higher in 2007 and 2009. The average rate in the NWHU area was 52.6 deaths per 100,000 people, compared with 40.3 in the province as a whole. The rates remained relatively stable between 2005 and 2009.
