Gonorrhea rates in the NWHU area were significantly higher than Ontario rates from 2009 to 2013. The average rate in Ontario was 35.2 cases per 100,000 people; in the NWHU area, the average rate was 134.3 cases per 100,000 people. The provincial rate remained relatively stable during this period, whereas the NWHU area seemed to experience a peak in rate in 2010 and 2011. Rates in the NWHU have been amongst the highest in the province.
Just over half of all gonorrhea cases between 2009 and 2013 were female (55.6%) and almost half occurred among people aged 20 to 29 (49.2%).
