Colorectal cancer

Incidence
Incident rates of colorectal cancers were significantly higher in the NWHU area in 2006 and 2009 when compared with Ontario, but in other years has been at around the same level. The average number of new case annually in the NWHU area was 57.0 per 100,000 people, just above the provincial average of 48.6 cases per 100,000. The rate remained relatively stable in the province between 2005 and 2009.

Mortality
Mortality rates due to colorectal cancer in the NWHU area were higher but generally on par with Ontario rates from 2005 to 2009. The average rate in the NWHU area was 23.8 deaths per 100,000 people, compared to 19.1 in Ontario. Both rates showed a decreasing trend during this period.
