Breast Cancer

Overall, the incidence of breast cancer amongst females was similar between the NWHU area and Ontario as a whole between 2005 and 2009, apart from 2009 when the incidence rate was significantly lower in the NWHU area. On average, there were 90.4 cases per 100,000 people per year in the NWHU area and 99.3 cases in the province between 2005 and 2009. Ontario rates remained relatively stable during this period, and NWHU showed a slight decreasing trend.

The mortality rate due to female breast cancer in the NWHU area was generally similar to Ontario rates from 2005 to 2009, apart from 2008 when it was significantly lower.  The average mortality rate in the NWHU area was 17.1 deaths per 100,000 people, compared with 21.6 in the province as a whole. Both rates showed a decreasing trend from 2005 to 2009.
