The Shot and Bone Health

​The birth control injection can affect your bone health. To decrease the effects of the shot on your bones you can:

  • Maintain a healthy diet and follow Canada's Food Guide recommendations of 2-3 serving of milk and alternatives per day, depending on your age.
  • Take vitamins containing calcium and Vitamin D daily.
  • Get regular exercise.
  • Stop smoking.
  • Reduce or eliminate alcohol and caffeine from your diet.
