Signs and Symptoms of Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It most commonly attacks the lungs, but can also affect other parts of the body.
Symptoms of tuberculosis depend on where the TB bacteria are growing in the body. TB bacteria usually grow in the lungs. TB in the lungs may cause symptoms such as:
  • Cough lasting 2 weeks or more
  • Pain in the chest
  • Fluid or blood with cough
  • Fever
  • Night sweats
  • Weight loss
  • Loss of appetite
  • Shortness of breath
  • Weakness
