Volatile and Other Chemicals

Public health inspectors at the Northwestern Health Unit help to manage health hazard issues related to volatile and other chemicals. Volatile chemicals are chemicals that exist as a gas, have high vapor pressures at room temperature and can negatively affect a person’s health. It is important that other (non-volatile) chemicals such as pesticides can also be dangerous to health if not properly used.
  • Formaldehyde
  • Urea-formaldehyde
  • Toluene
  • Gasoline
  • Paint thinners
  • Strippers
  • Ethylbenzene

If you have questions about the health effects of being exposed to volatile and other chemicals, contact your local Northwestern Health Unit office.
