Early Detection of Cancer

The Early Detection of Cancer services offered at the Northwestern Health Unit aim to educate and support community members about the importance of cancer screening and living a healthy lifestyle.
 
It is possible to find problems early, and when cancer is found early it is often easier to treat.
 
Screening services
The health unit provides cervical cancer screening (pap tests) through the Sexual Health ProgramThe health unit also promotes the mobile screening opportunities (breast, cervical, and colorectal) through the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and Screen for Life program.
 
Self-screening
Learn about the importance of checking for testicular cancer in young men, and the home Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT) for colorectal cancer screening.
 
Information and resources
The health unit provides information about cancer prevention through healthy eating, physical activity, smoking cessation and the low-risk drinking guidelines.
