Program Description Sexual and reproductive health is a key part of an individual's health, and well-being. The World Health Organization identifies the top ten major health risks in the world in a report released in October 2002. Unsafe sex was number two on the list. High rates of unplanned pregnancies and STIs continue to result from unprotected oral, anal and vaginal sexual contact.
The Northwestern Health Unit offers confidential, accurate and non-judgmental services. Services are available for both males and females. No referral is necessary.
Of the twelve Northwestern Health Unit offices, there are four offices with Sexual Health Clinics. These Sexual Health Clinics provide comprehensive birth control counselling, complete testing for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), cervical screening, pregnancy testing, and access to affordable birth control. Other topics including abstinence, sexual orientation, menopause, substance abuse, relationship issues and infertility can be addressed.
Resources for parents, teens and teachers are also available. For more information about resources or services please contact your local Northwestern Health Unit office.
