Program Description
The two Northwestern Health Unit Audiologists also act as a resource for physicians, local educators and industrial institutions (pulp and paper mills) as well as health care providers in the areas of hearing conservation, hearing loss, and communication strategies (prescribing hearing aids and listening devices).
Audiology Services liaise closely with the Canadian Hearing Society in providing a quality service to the Kenora and Rainy River Districts with respect to hearing aid dispensing and fittings. Clinical/rehabilitation reports are also provided to the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) and Veterans' Affairs Canada (VAC) as required.
Audiology Clinics
Audiology clinics are conducted in the Kenora (Market Square) and Fort Frances offices of the Northwestern Health Unit. The two Northwestern Health Unit Audiologists also travel to Atikokan, Dryden, Ear Falls, Rainy River and Red Lake to conduct itinerant clinics.
