Celebrating its 60th Anniversary in 2008, the Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) is proud to be a progressive, team oriented organisation employing over one-hundred and fifty of the most dynamic, dedicated and forward-thinking employees in Northwestern Ontario.
The Northwestern Health Unit strongly encourages skills development through regular in-house training specific to each program. We are proud to offer our employees continuing education and up-to-date knowledge opportunities through provincial and national conferences and tuition subsidies for post-secondary education courses.
Inside each of the thirteen office, employees enjoy business casual dress and individual, private offices. Most offices also promote a dress-down Friday, and the one dollar contribution to wear jeans is tallied at the end of the year and donated to a local charity.
Recognising that many of our employees are several hundred kilometres apart, annually, the NWHU holds a Staff Recognition Event. Staff, management and the Board of Health members are gathered together and treated to an evening of great food, great conversation and great memories.
Employees at the NWHU are provided with four weeks paid vacation upon hire in addition to a provision for emergency family leave. As well, employees are offered a defined benefitspension plan and a comprehensive benefits package. The benefit packages include dental, eye-care, prescription drugs, extended health, life and LTD, best-doctor, travel coverage and maternity top-up. The NWHU also provides its employees with alternative work options including flexible hours and a compressed summer work-week.
